The Monkey's Cheese!

   Wednesday, May 27

SO I thought I'd share some interesting links and gentle musings. I'm sick you see, and bedridden (have you heard The Bedridden? They're the best Aussi band ever) so sitting here and actually focusing on things for a change, thinking, well I should produce or create something.. and I worry you know, about this addiction to production and creativity.. yet I worry even more about my lack of production or creativity.. both bother me, the drive to create, when half the time I just want to interact and watch, and also the drive to be still and enjoy, with this constant undercurrent commanding me to produce, progress, share.

There's these bugs flying around in my room, they've been here for five days now, I feel like i'm in Africa, if one comes near me I'm gonna kill it.

Agh distracted, distraction, constant, relentless. I usually have 8 tabs open, and I am wondering if this is good or bad.. I kinda have been in a weird place lately where I can't tell between two days ago or two weeks ago, memories are just a big jumble, a mass of stuff that hapenned at some point.. How paradoxic that when my life is the most exciting I have trouble finding time to write it down, and when it's crap and slow I have all the time in the world to write down every single cup of tea and dull meander from bedroom to fridge..

I found this interesting article on The Benefits of Distraction - http://nymag.com/news/features/56793 - I liked the tone in which it spoke to me. Basically we all have ADHD, people think it's gonna fuck us up in the future, the writer thinks it's going to make our brains actually better multitasking information processing units and I tend to agree with him. (Our brains will always ADAPT).

Here's the recipe for the tea im drinking right now. (I got it off Ben).
  • Ginger slices
  • Garlic slices
  • Chili bits
  • Honey
  • Cinnammon
  • Lemon
  • Hot Water

BLAM. IT's good for what ails ya!

Now here's a bunch of links I've found interesting lately..

An Interview with Kareem Etouny (designer of the game Little Big Planet) - What is interesting is how he says that being original is the oldest most thin thing one can do. He sez creating something original for originalitys sake means its divorced from thousands of years of human imagination. I agree. The desire to be original can be stunting.

More New Math - A bunch of interesting, funny and true equations.

Tonematrix - A fun online synth very much like the Tenori-On, cool sounds and it's soothing.

Pikelet Clip - Pikelet is a Melbourne musician who I really enjoy. She use to drop by to colaborate with our old housemate and she's always super nice. Her music is made through melodic layered acoustic, electronic and vocal melodies. She reminds me a little of Juana Molina. I really dig it.

I have a lot more stuff to share but I think I'll theme it.

That tea recipe is my lifeblood!

I think that the amount of creation/production that occurs when we are asleep and dreaming is underrated. We spend a solid chunk of our lives creating (and destroying and recreating) entire universes with our eyes closed.
